Today, we have added an exciting new feature to Grateful Dead of the Day that allows you to choose the recording you would like to listen to.
For each show, we always select a recording to feature in the player, idiosyncratically mixing audience, soundboard, and matrix tapes. For the most part, this is all you need: a sweet Dead show cued up for your enjoyment.
But we also realize that some folks would like to choose which recording they listen to. They might have a preference for front of the board audience tapes, really enjoy Charlie Miller’s work, or want a tasty matrix from the likes of Hunter Seamons. Now, you can simply pick out the recording and play it here at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Selecting the recording you would like to listen to is easy. First, click on “Select recording” at the bottom left of the player.
This will bring up a list of all the available recordings of a given show. From that list, choose the recording you would like to listen to by clicking on the “Identifier” link, which will reload the show page with the new recording all ready for your listening pleasure (including in the alternative player).
At any time, if you would like to learn more about the recording that is in the player at Grateful Dead of the Day, simply click on the “Recording info” link at the top of the player.
Now, if you cannot be bothered with selecting a recording, there is no need to fret. We got you with a tasty recording of every show cued up for you automatically. But if you do want to select a particular recording, that option is now there for you.
Today, May 15th, provides a great example of what is possible with the new functionality. We selected an audience recording by Jimmy Cooper of the late show to be the featured recording for May 15, 1970, our Dead of the Day. It is a great audience tape that really gives you a feeling of what it was like to be at the Fillmore East on this outstanding evening. But there are some other fantastic recordings out there that give you both the early and late show along with the New Riders sets from both shows all in soundboard format, including a transfer by Chuck Reynolds and Seth Kaplan. Now, you can choose to give those a listen here at Grateful Dead of the Day.
If you have any features that you would like to see added to Grateful Dead of the Day, shoot Jeff an email and/or fill out our survey. And if you are having any difficulties accessing or using the website, don’t hesitate to reach out.
