“A sporadic presence in the Grateful Dead repertoire, To Lay Me Down was recorded for and released on Jerry’s debut solo album in 1972. It had been written and recorded for possible inclusion on American Beauty in 1970, but wasn’t part of that album. After a handful of appearances 19701-1974, To Lay Me Down was put aside until it returned acoustically in 1980. I would remain in the repertoire on and off until its final appearance in 1992.” – David Lemieux
