“By 1990, China/Rider had been in the Dead’s repertoire for more than 20 years, since they were first joined in the Fall of 1969. A consistently played combination until 1995 (aside from a brief hiatus 1975-1978, with one performance during that span on 12/29/77), this was most commonly a second set opener in the later years, usually going into a Weir song.
