We invite you to become a member of our new Grateful Dead of the Day Facebook group. And help us grow this new community by sharing the group with your friends.
You might remember our old Grateful Dead of the Day Facebook page. At its high point, we had over 27,000 people who were members. And this created a vibrant community of folks who would comment on our daily posts and discuss all things Grateful Dead in the comments.
Unfortunately, in June of 2023, Zuckerberg felt compelled to put our page in Facebook jail for an unspecified violation of the platform’s rules. It is hard to believe if you have not experienced a Facebook judgement yourself, but they gave us no specific explanation of what we did. And the only opportunity we had to appeal their decision was to press a button requesting an appeal.
Well, we pressed the button and waited. And waited. And tried to contact Facebook customer service, which pretty much does not exist. And waited. And emailed Zuckerberg’s personal email account. And waited. And, finally, in December of last year, Facebook made our suspension permanent, not by providing us with any more information or even letting us know in an email, but simply by deleting the entire Grateful Dead of the Day Facebook page.
So, we lost our Facebook page and the great 27,000 Deadhead-strong community that had built up around it without any specific justification and without any recourse. About all I can say that we gained through the process was a deeper appreciation for the works of Franz Kafka.
At Grateful Dead of the Day, we have done a few things to try to recapture some of that community. We set up a Head’s Tales Facebook page that we encourage you to follow. And we also started putting out “The Daily Nugs” on Substack, which you should definitely subscribe to if you are not already a member. And, now, we are hoping to recreate some of the old Facebook page community with this new Grateful Dead of the Day Facebook group. Please join us.
We would love to hear if there is another social media platform that you would like to see us set up a presence on, if you have had your own struggles with Facebook, or if there is any content you would like to see on Grateful Dead of the Day. Hit us up in the comments below.
