Giveaway Winner and His Concert Report

Last Sunday, we wrapped up our ticket giveaway for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration at Tanglewood, and we’re happy to report that Jeff Andrade was the lucky winner of a pair of lawn seats for the show.

This opportunity came about after a marketing group reached out about advertising the event on Grateful Dead of the Day. We put together a promotion that included the ticket giveaway. All we had to do was draw a winner and send along the information so the tickets would be waiting at will call. Pretty cool.

A few days after the concert, Jeff emailed with a short report and a few photos from the evening. By all accounts, it sounds like he had a fantastic time.

After a passing thunderstorm, the concert opened with “Dark Star” – a popular Deadhead choice and Jeff’s favorite jam. He was especially impressed by the band itself, which included Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Grahame Lesh, Melvin Seals, and Jacklyn LaBranch.

Going in, Jeff expected something closer to a traditional Boston Pops performance, with a few Dead tunes mixed among orchestral pieces. Instead, he got exactly what he hoped for: an evening dominated by Grateful Dead music, with the orchestra complementing the band rather than the other way around. And the band alone took over for the last few tunes.

In Jeff’s words, it was “thoroughly enjoyable and a great first time at Tanglewood” for both him and his guest.
