The all-time best “Estimated” and “Shakedown” on one show and it gets 2 stars? Downright silly lowballing of a show with a rock solid 1st set (pretty com selection, actually, great slowed down “Friend of theDevil”), a downright brilliant 2nd that flies in the face of haters’ criticisms of the period, and then that infinitely funky “Shakedown Street”. A personal Top 3 Dead show for me, which I realize will hurt the credibility of this comment for some, but December ’79 is a low-key golden month for me (the setlist for 10-28 is borderline garbage but they make “Alabama” > “Greatest Story”) and I defy you to listen to the whole show and come up with a worthwhile, honest knock about anything other than too many Berry covers.
