This night was released as part of Dick’s Picks 35. The soundboards for that release came from the famous “Houseboat Tapes.” Back in 1971, as Keith Godchaux was about to join the band, Jerry supposedly turned over the tapes of the band’s most recent tour, telling Keith he could use them to familiarize himself with the band’s repertoire. Keith probably never listened to the tapes, leaving them on his parent’s houseboat in their original boxes. In 2005, the tapes were “discovered” by the Godchaux’s son, Zion, and Keith’s brother, Brian. Donna made a call to David Lemieux, ensuring the tapes got into the Vault. As they say, the rest is history.
