Monterey Fairgrounds

Monterey, California

One of the many festival performances by the band that they failed to really nail. Still, these couple songs are fairly hot. The big thing for the Dead at the Monterey Pops Festival was that their set was sandwiched in between The Who, who destroyed their instruments after a devastating set, and Jimi Hendrix, who lit his guitar on fire and scorched the show. Monterey Pops as a whole, though, was absolutely legendary, and the Dead were a huge part of the reason the scene happened at all.
