Spring tour was always a special time with the Dead. Outdoor venues began to pop into the mix, and the scene started to blossom along with the foliage. For their part, the boys brought a fresh sound and new approach to the music, awakening and renewing in a way that befit the season. Coming out of Jerry’s coma in 1986, the ’87 spring tour represented a rebirth of a different order. And what better way to sample some of that energy and verve than with this stunner from the Frost. The first set is delightful, especially the Rooster. But the real action is in the second half…just look at that magnificent setlist. And the playing takes the tunes to their full measure, highlighted by the soaring and majestic Dew.
