This tape is part of the video recording session for “So Far,” a 55-minute video documentary, which you can stream on Amazon. The Dead initially released the video in 1987 on VHS and Laserdisc. It was re-released on DVD in 2012 as part of the fabulous All the Years Combine box set. The film itself is meant to be far more than a concert documentary or music video. Instead, Jerry – who has a directing credit on the video – was trying to encapsulate the energy of the band and its fans along with the culture of the Deadheads. The film also includes some – for the time – cutting edge computer animation. While it might not live up to Jerry’s vision, it certainly is a wonderful relic that any Head will find worth watching.

Notes:
According to Deadbase IX, GD played Marin 4/19/85, 4/20/85, and 4/21/85
for the So Far video sessions. (Songs on this tape do not match Deadbase
listing.) These were combined with footage from 12/31/85 for the So Far
video release. The tape is labelled as 4/21, although it might also be
a compilation of tracks from different days. The mix is a bit muffled.
