Cameron Indoor Stadium

Durham, North Carolina

At the mecca of college basketball, the boys began the spring East Coast tour. There is nothing extraordinarily earth-shattering here, but there are lots of heady treats, perhaps none more scrumptious than the Sugaree. The night was historic, though, because Jerry and Phil switched sides of the stage, where they would remain for the rest of Grateful Dead history.

One commenter on Archive captures the spring tour vibe perfectly, explaining:

This was my first Dead show, and my friend Sandy took me to it. We came down from NJ to see the show, and it was still cold up in the northeast, but I remember as the miles flew south, the temperature kept rising. This began a fateful (or grateful) feeling of wonderful anticipation in the years to come, as winter lead to spring, and east coast spring tour took us south again, year after year, where we shook off the cold rain and snow, and anticipated the summer soon to be here.
