Grugga Halle

Essen, Germany

This is a tremendous show with some standout versions, including Sugaree, Shakedown, and Althea. But Phil didn’t consider it very good at the time. As he relates in Searching for the Sound, earlier that day, Billy had fired and wrongfully accused their manager, Richard Loren, of stealing from the band. Phil called it a “stupid move,” for which Billy jumped across the room and started strangling the bass player. The band played later that night, but the interpersonal dynamic between the boys was, no doubt, a little strained.
